In the majority of cases, we do not know what to do in the event of a death, and there is even greater unawareness when it comes to the international transfer of a deceased person, especially if the death has occurred outside the country of origin.

Step by step:

  • 1/ Call Mémora International: At your disposal 24h/365 days in different languages. Call to 0034 914 849 400 (00351 214 706 300 if calling from Portugal)

  • 2/ If you have insurance, it is important to notify the insurance company of the death: and to provide them with the contact details of Mémora International in order to coordinate the service.

  • 3/ Attending to the family and handling the documentation: Passport, authorisations, providing information about the process to the persons concerned, etc.

  • 4/ Transfer of the deceased to the appropriate funeral facilities

  • 5/ All the necessary steps that need to be taken at origin for the transfer: preparation of the body, coffin, air freight, customs, etc.

  • 5/ Arrangements in the destination country with our international providers, depending on the type of service requested

The modalities of repatriation depend on the wishes of the family and on the laws and customs of the country of destination. You can choose to cremate the deceased in the country where the death occurred and transfer the ashes to their country of origin, or you can repatriate the deceased for burial or cremation in their country of origin. We are aware of the multicultural society we live in, which is why we make every effort to know the cultural and religious reality in order to be able to provide a suitable service for the deceased and their loved ones.
